The history of the Coke

The cola is probably the most famous soft drink in the world. The name Cola comes from the caffeine-containing cola nut that was originally used to make the cola. At the end of the 19th century, cola was still available as an over-the-counter remedy in the pharmacy. At that time, the cola also contained about 250 mg of cocaine per liter, which gave it the name Coca-Cola. Due to 13 deaths from cocaine poisoning, the addition of the intoxicant was banned in the United States in 1914.

Cola - ingredients and health risks

The most common types of cola usually contain caffeine, phosphoric acid, carbonic acid and lots of sugar. One can of cola contains 10 cubes of sugar. This covers the recommended daily maximum. The high sugar content is one of the main reasons why regular consumption of cola is considered harmful to health. Drinking cola frequently can lead to obesity, increasing the risk of heart disease and diabetes. (vb)
