Swiss cheese contaminated with bacteria
The consumer protection portal of the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety "lebensmittelwarnung.de" warns against the consumption of the Swiss cheese "Reblochon de Savoie au lait cru" in the 450 gram pack. The manufacturer "Fromagerie Chabert" calls the cheese back on suspicion of Escherichia coli 026. These bacteria can cause gastrointestinal inflammation, which can be accompanied by bloody diarrhea and fever. There is an additional risk of kidney complications, especially for small children.
According to the manufacturer, products of the "Reblochon de Savoie au lait cru 450 gram" variety with the identification mark FR 74-096-050 CE and the best-before date from April 2, 2018 to July 24, 2018 are affected. The manufacturer asks the consumers not to eat this cheese. Instead, it can be returned to the market for a refund of the purchase price.
About coli bacteria
Colloquially, the gut bacteria of the genus Escherichia coli are called coli bacteria. These are part of the normal intestinal flora and perform important functions there. However, there are also disease-causing strains. These pathogenic strains include the Escheria Coli 026 bacterium, which can cause severe gastrointestinal disorders.
